If you're looking for a fresh take on Christmas, you've found it in “The Star Still Shines.” Blind since birth, vocalist and keyboardist extraordinaire Gordon Mote began playing piano at the age of three and toured with his family’s singing group until his undeniable talent made him an award-winning Nashville session player for such artists as Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, Lorrie Morgan, Rascal Flatts, Lionel Richie, and Alison Krauss. (Gordon is also the winner of a 2011 Academy of Country Music Award and a 2012 Music Row Award).
Good Music is very proud to present this new Christmas collection, which is sure to please fans of Gordon’s eclectic gospel, inspirational, country and R&B vocal styles. From poignant to powerful, this inspiring holiday project celebrates the “Christ” in Christmas in the fresh, creative and heartfelt manner that has made Gordon one of the brightest emerging artists in music today.
The album is anything but cliche. It includes Michael W. Smith’s classic “Emmanuel” and Steven Curtis Chapman’s “Christmas Is All In the Heart.” In addition to Mote's warm vocals, he demonstrates his piano playing skills with instrumental interludes of ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Away In A Manger” and “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” The first single from the project, an exhilarating vocal/keyboard arrangement of “Go Tell It On the Mountain” was released to radio last Christmas.
The highlight of the album are the female vocals by Kimberly Mote and Angie Rodgers on “From Bethlehem To Calvary.” Simply beautiful, with Gordon's accompaniment.
“I remember the first Christmas with my wife, Kimberly,” Gordon reflects. “We had a little 700-square foot apartment in Nashville and a scrawny llttle ‘Charlie Brown” Christmas tree. We crammed our friends and family into that tiny living room, dimmed the lights and sang Christmas carols. What sweet days those were...simple, yet so full. Now that we have children of our own, we are blessed with new memories. It is our prayer that as you listen to these songs, you, too, will sit back and think of all you have to be thankful for this Christmas.”
Despite his success as a Nashville session musician, in 2005, Mote released his solo debut recording, “If You Could Hear What I See.” It earned him a Dove Award nomination from the Gospel Music Association for Instrumental Album of the Year.
Gordon also travels to more than 150 show dates each year. Since 2006, he has served as pianist for the popular Gaither Homecoming Tour, with legendary songwriters Bill and Gloria Gaither and Gaither's Grammy Award winning Gaither Vocal Band.
When he's home, Gordon enjoys spending time with children Samantha, Parker and Ashton. “I must admit I have a great life,” he reflects. “Sure there have been obstacles, but I am a very blessed man.” No doubt. Gordon Mote is a man who, through all the struggles, trials, triumphs, joys and blessings, has learned to trust in Jesus and depend upon His Word.
